Q: What is your profession?
A: Marketing, Strategy & Business Operations for the NBA (National Basketball Association).
Q: How long have you held this position/worked in your current field?
Q: What is your passion in life and are you currently living it out?
A: My passion in life is to leverage the power of sports to impact the world. Using my gifts, my position, and whatever platform I might have to inspire those that look like me and come from similar backgrounds and neighborhoods as me, to know that they can love the game of basketball (or any sport) and not only dominate on the court or field, but also know that can flourish on the business side as well. So I am absolutely living it out my passion every day, and I feel blessed to have the opportunity to do what I do.
Q: When did you know what your passion was?
A: From the age of 7 years old, I have always had a passion for the game of basketball. In college, I majored in Business Management, and fell in love with all things Leadership, Marketing and Strategy. It was also in college that I discovered the business of sports and started learning how professional teams operate and generate revenue. I realized that the perfect career for me was the marriage of my passion for basketball with my education in Business.
Q: Do you have any advice for those who are aspiring to be a "passionate professional"?
A: Yes. I would say first, think about the skills you have, the things you are best at, and the things you enjoy doing most. Find opportunities that tap into those skills, that allow you to do things you love. Opportunities that you are excited about each morning you wake up. But also “Know your why”. Know what motivates you. Know what makes you so passionate about something. Know why that job excited you in first place. Knowing your why helps you maintain your passion through the grind. Through the less than ideal days. Through the moments that are tough. Knowing your why centers your during adverse times, and helps you become a passionate professional.
